The concert
"As we have learned to our great cost, in the case of pancreatic cancer, diagnosis is generally a death sentence. My friend and colleague Robert Brown lived just thirteen weeks beyond that point. He was the kind of man who, had he survived, would have wanted to do something constructive to address the need for earlier diagnosis and to help the families of those affected. For this to be achieved, much more money is needed, so I urge you to attend this marvellous event and thereby to support the vital work of Pancreatic Cancer UK." - John Redwood MP
"In programming this concert, I have again turned to Stephen Layton and the Holst Singers, possibly the finest choral conductor and large choir in the UK today. Stephen, whose Vaughan Williams Serenade to Music and Fauré Requiem from the first of these concerts are still vivid memories, has helped me to assemble a fine vocal quartet with whom to revisit the Mozart Requiem, last heard under his baton at the BBC Proms in August 2011. Another good friend, Michael Collins, the finest clarinettist in the world by a country mile, joins us to play that instrument's greatest masterpiece - Mozart's ever-popular concerto. Stephen and Michael both hold titles with the City of London Sinfonia, so it is highly appropriate that this fine orchestra will also be on stage." - James Brown, Hazard Chase Limited
